El Leoncito (5,000 masl) Live a 5-day adventure in one of the least visited places in Mendoza.
The Andes Mountain Range is the largest on the planet. But few explore its mountains beyond the most famous ones such as Aconcagua or Lanín. In the 21st century it seems that everything has already been seen, but there are still places to discover.
The expedition to the Leoncito hill is exploration mountaineering since we travel through little-known areas of the mountain range. The human being has the innate instinct to explore, search, discover and the desire to stand out being the first. Exploration mountaineering combines this and much more, such as observing sites of archaeological and anthropological interest, along with Andean fauna and flora that you could rarely see.
Itinerary:
Day 1: arrival in Mendoza. Transfer from the airport / bus terminal to Uspallata, and from there to Estancia El Yalgüaraz. After crossing the gate we enter restricted territory. We arrive at the base camp «La Terminal» and deliver the loads to be transported by mules to the next camp «El Tridente». After lunch, we will trek towards “El Tridente”. Night in a tent.
Day 2: After breakfast we prepare the individual loads and then start the trekking up to the «La Orca» camp, spend the night in tents.
Day 3: We have breakfast and before sunrise we begin the ascent of the Leoncito hill, 5,000 meters high. The same is done walking to the summit, and eventually with crampons in case the accumulation of snow / ice on the ground requires it. After the summit attempt we return to the «La Orca» camp, spend the night in tents.
Day 4: After breakfast we disarm the camp and begin the descent to the “La Terminal” camp where the all-terrain vehicle awaits us to return to Mendoza. End of the program
Day 5: Extra day to be used before possible weather conditions that prevent the ascent the previous day.
Important: The itinerary is a reference for the program. It may change, the main reasons may be weather conditions that prevent the development of the program safely for the group.
